Planning a drive from Santa Barbara to Warner Springs to hike section B over
Memorial Day weekend. Looking for someone to help with shuttle between I-10E
and Warner Springs. Please contact off-list. Thanks.

Chipmunk,

This is a very rough idea of where the trail might be rerouted based
on the maps at tejonpreserve.com:

http://tinyurl.com/3ug8gv

Existing PCT is the line to the right, reroute is on the left.

most importantly, knock out most of the dreaded desert walk! Yay!

Joe writes: I just talked to Scott Williamson and we both have decided upon the
date of our departure. On June 8th at 12 noon we will depart from Campo in
attempt to break the unassisted record of 79 days, 21 hours, and 42 minutes. It
is in our both agreement to make this public.

Switchback replies: That is very interesting and sounds like a challenge.
Unsupported JMT Reinhold and I have decided to give you guys a head start. Then
on June 15 (Ray Day) we will start from Campo to beat you to the Canadian
border. We plan to take a lot of zero's too. In fact we might be there when
you depart on June 8th (Sunday) to wish you well.

There will be a lot of pressure on you knowing that we are hot on your heels.
You will feel us breathing down your necks and hear our foot steps getting ever
closer. This will cause you to sweat a lot more, so carry extra water. I think
up in Washington, we will plan to be about half a day ahead of you. This is so
we can toy with your minds --- we will be just out of reach. Our footprints
will be fresh and offer the temptation of catching up. By the way, you are
going to get very tired of looking at our footprints on the trail.

At every resupply stop, they will be out of the best goodies, since we will have
been there ahead of you. This is too cool and sounds like fun.

Your pals, Switchback and Unsupported JMT

You know now that I think about it, I wonder how we can set it up so they
get to the Canadian border monument in 79 days, 21 hours, and 43 minutes. That

would be one minute short of tying the record. I would think an ambush
along the last 8 miles into the monument would be cool. Previous ambushes
would
have slowed them down to where they were just going to break the record.
These two guys might break the current record by days, so careful planning is
needed to make this work.

But to really make this work, it has to be a sting operation. It has to be
something that they do not realize they have been had. They will just think
they are having bad luck, etc., "Better luck next time" and all that. I will
have to think about this.

Say, I know. We could leave hot pizzas and cold brews along the trail for
them. If they eat or drink anything, they are now ASSISTED. Their unassisted
record attempt goes out the window. THAT'S IT!! And as the hike goes on,
the more likely they will violate their sacred unassisted oath. Another
brilliant idea by yours truly. How do I do it? Thank you, thank you, thank
you
.............many pats on the back and congratulations for me.
