Good morning, All,

Hikers in poison oak regions should avoid contact with animals along the
trail. It is unlikely a hiker will touch a wild animal, but there could be
contact with a dog -- yours or other people's -- or possibly a passing pack
or riding animal. Dogs in particular are just the right height to collect
poison oak oils on their head and on their sides in their ongoing quest to
smell everything along the trail, even while on a leash. Horses, etc., can
collect poison oak oils on their lower legs -- which a hiker is unlikely to
touch -- and also on their noses which could be touched if the rider is
willing and the animal is friendly.
