yup, that'll spread 'em out real quick like too!

i'll be turnin' all the signs 90* to the west as i pass 'em and puttin' sticks and brush over the real trail, the ones that make it past the first obstacle will be welcomed with deeply dug pits filled with rattlers and covered with more brush! ;-D

This is a PERFECT solution. We could issue tags to manage the herd. The reason this works so well is (any long distance hiker can tell you) that the thru hiker tastes best early in the trek before they become increasingly tough and smelly. This would draw most hunters to the early part of the trail where the herd is. Really, no one in their right mind would want to put a single bite of thru-hiker in their mouth once north of Mojave.

I vote that the herd of 2008 all carry vidoecams we then produce ummmm. 2560 miles at 2.5 miles per hour is 1024 hours of videos. All future pct hikers will be required to purchase a treadmill that will automaticaly self adjust to trail slope while watching said videos. To actually qualify as a pct thru hiker you will be required to fly to aguadulce and stay at the saufleys then slack pack to the andersons 1 out of 5 must also visit the dinsmores(assuming we have closer to 100% completion). To be an official thru hiker and receive and pin you must have 2 witnesses verify that you actually walked the treadmill for each section with at least a 20lb(unless you can prove you could actualy backpack with less. Maybe we could get Switchback or other volenteers to certify pack weight on the infamous warner springs loop trail) with pack and you must complete all 2560 miles in a 12 month contiguous period(maybe we should all vote for 6 months instead of 12?).

This way we can all hike our own hike(unfortunatly SB'ers must walk backwards while playing the videos in reverse). Weather considerations would be a moot point. You may be able to do this while holding down a part time job. The herd should be eliminated since you can start at any time. Tent and sleeping bags, stove selections(GE or Maytag) will be greatly simplified. Maybe the trail angels could then start a pre registration required policy where no more then 3 to 5 hikers will show up on any given day. Additionaly the mosquito problems will be mostly eliminated, and the post master at Warner Springs will be eternaly gratefull.

Happy trails
