People who don't carry canisters are putting alot at risk as had been discussed
extensively. One thing I have not seen come up is that those of you who choose
to ingore this law also put me at risk (and every other hiker). You may not get injured
when a bear gets your food but now that bear knows he can get food from hikers.
Now you have put me at greater risk of having my food taken by a bear or even getting
injured (or worse) by a bear.
So many people think that they are the only ones they put at risk when they "Choose"
to break laws and regulations. This simply isn't true. I don't care if you are speeding down
a deserted highway, jumping off a bridge, or not carrying a bear canister - you ARE putting
other people at risk.
In a wilderness setting, it's unacceptable to put other people at risk of harm through your
own actions and even more so if you do this while choosing to ignore laws put in place to
protect animals, people, and the wilderness itself.
