[pct-l] Bear Cannisters

Diane,

You will find bear boxes at Tuolumne Meadows and in Yosmite Valley. These are the only ones you will find between Mammoth and Yosemite Valley. There just aren't any in between any more. There are a few boxes at the High Sierra Camps, but they are only for the paying guests. All of the other "popular camp sites" are box-free, and even the suspension cables have been removed. The Park Service is very firm about using bear cannisters.

But here is an idea for you. You CAN leave some supplies in the Tuolumne Meadows bear boxes while you make a detour down to the Valley. Just be sure to mark your food well, with your name and your return date. Then put the food that you need for the Valley trip in your bear can. If you do this, though, make sure that your detour isn't longer than a couple of days. The Rangers MAY clear out the boxes!

Cheers!

Jim
