You may get cited, you won't be hogged tied and water boarded.

Personally, I'd skip the canister and accept any responsibility without a 
word of complaint. Desolation Wilderness, Glen Aulin, Lyel Canyon, Benson 
Lake are hotbeds of ranger activity. Coincidently, you'll find tons of 
weekenders and irresponsible food handling. Coincidently, that's where the 
bears hang out. Avoid the high people/bear areas.

Be smart. No problem.
