[pct-l] PCT Record Setting Unsupported Hike

Donna,
You are 100% correct.
That is exactly why they are North bound instead of South bound, to reduce the number of North
bound PCT hikers they would encounter if they were South bound...everybody would want to talk to
them and therefore slow them down.
Even though they both carry cell phones they will not be posting....posting takes time.
The only progress reports will be on Joe's cell phone message recording and neither want their
cell phone numbers given out to prevent them from being buried and slowed down with telephone
inquiries and well wishes.
I, and I am sure others who have Joe's cell phone number, will keep track of their progress and,
occasionally, will post their progress on the list.

People need to understand this is not a walk in the park for them....this is for the PCT record
and time management, next to physical conditioning & determination is the most critical factor,
so folks should respect that and not interfere with their time management...when I decided to
hike with them to Lake Morena, we agreed they would not wait for me if I could not keep up with
them.

In the past, it's been my observation that Scott has not wanted that type of attention or support, but I certainly can't speak for him or Michele. If they want that sort of thing, I'm sure Michele would post their itinerary. She's posted to the list before and surely can do so again.

IMHO, people stopping to meet them along the way, however well intended, has the effect of slowing them down. Things left for them on the trail become encumbrances, which must be either carried or left behind. Neither option is optimal.
