I haven't been on it in many years, but we used to do it at least once each year in early Spring while the high country was still buried in snow (when I lived in Yreka) and the hiking "itch" was getting unbearable... it makes for a nice 'long' weekend / 3 day trip (allowing the extra time for car shuttle, too)...
