This post has nothing to do with the "Subject" line. That line just came to me in a flash and I liked it. It's for those of us who are POSSESSED by the pack......

Anyway, I got a free Consumer Reports flyer in the mail today. Perusing it, I found a short blurb on digital cameras I thought might be helpful:

Q: Is there a small, easy-to-use digital that's good for family photos and doesn't cost a lot? (I'm guessing this implies good all-around camera)

A: Our tests uncovered some great choices. At only $220, the Canon PowerShot A630 has excellent print quality and weighs 8 oz. If you want similar print quality in a smaller package, consider the subcompact Canon PowerShot SD830. It's $370 and weighs in at a mere 5 ounces.

Q: Is it worth it to spend more on a camera with 6 or 7 megapixels of resolution versus one with 5?

A: Not necessarily, unless you're cropping in tightly on images or making poster-size prints. More megapixels usually translates into more picture detail. But beyond 5, you're unlikely to see the difference, even with 8x10 prints. Our advice: a 5-megapixel camera should provide all the resolution an average person needs. For posters, get at least 7 megapixels.

Hm. Who knew?
