Yes, Tam McArthur says Senoj Lake (and I assume the trail that goes there)
was named for a man named Jones. Which man named Jones and why they spelled
Jones' name backwards are curiosities McArthur does not discuss. When these
lakes in the Deschutes and Willamette National Forest were named, there were
more lakes than people out there. McFarland Lake and East McFarland Lake
near Irish Mountain to the south of Three Sisters were named by C.B.
McFarland, former Oakridge District Ranger many, many years ago. As fate
would have it, C.B.'s granddaughter works in the office next to mine. She
says C.B. named lots of obscure lakes for friends and relatives, so maybe
C.B. McFarland had a friend named Jones.
