Well, you certainly wouldn't want to be without a well ventilated hat, even
if you do carry an umbrella.  There will undoubtedly be situations where the
hat may be the best option (i.e., wind).

Seems like it would make the most sense, to me, to simply choose a  
well-ventilated hat made of thin fabric, then (or some other  
lightweight head cover). And simply secure the mylar directly to that  
instead of an umbrella frame.  After all, it's that frame that's the  
weight and the mylar that's the shade.. agent. Why not skip the frame?  
There must be a good way to secure mylar to a hat.
