Mike-
I appreciate your input and understand that those two places are perfectly safe. It is however, IMO, wrong to assume every hiker has the stamina to do 20 mile days right from the get-go. Many of us will find ourselves somewhere in between for a couple nights.

But Id much rather see my oilcans stocked at the General Store in Mt Laguna. Even the Campo store has a better selection of hoppy brews (although even they dont carry my oilcans
).
But one last comment on the Illegal issue- Night #1 is at the park at Morena. Night #2 is in Burnt Rancheria campground at Mt Laguna. Youre not likely at all to encounter illegal activity (of the immigration kind) in these campgrounds. If you see any non-PCT walkers on the trail within these first 40 miles, wave and say Hola!, you wont see any more northward.

Paul im so glad you addressed this issue, the ice cream situtation at mt laguna country store should concern everyone! so everyone, stop worrying about the illegals and worry about the ice cream! Maybe some of you past thru hikers should put up a list of the best ice cream stops along the way
