You're welcome.
VERY FEW folks are capable of doing 20 miles per day right off the bat. Some fools try do it anyway, thinking it proves they are true through-hikers..........and pay for it big time.
Don't try to run with the jackrabbits unless you are a jackrabbit. For most folks, it is not a race to see who gets to Canada first, third, or one hundred-thirty-third. It is a personal journey of discovery; the goal is to get there............eventually, and survive the trip. Set your own pace.

thank you both for your advice. what about the first day. i hear the "20 mile" thing to get you away from the border. if i can't do 20 the first day because of heat and conditioning where would be a good place to bed down. i'm thinking 15 mile days for the first 100 and see how it goes, but it seems to me everything/everyone is thinking 20's to start. the trail looks easy but hot. it'd be cool if folks had temps for the day on their journals. thanks again
