MoonPie-
I took the Royal Robbins desert shirt. I loved it so much, even through the
sierra's it was my main shirt. I don't even
think I'll take a t-shirt next time, I only wore my t-shirt in town.
Try to get a shirt that is comfortable, breathes well, and is light. Also,
the Royal Robbins shirt has buttons to roll up
the sleeves with. Thats a really nice feature, since I can have the sleeves
down for the really sunny parts, or the really
cool parts of the day, but roll them up when I want to.
Jetboil versus pepsi can? I prefer something alcohol based for long term. I
love my jetboil, but I would hate to have
to find canisters for it in some of those high mountain towns- plus it
weighs too much.
I did an alcohol burner, and then had a windscreen and base custom made
(cut up an old aluminum cookset for it).
The benefit is that while I pay a few more ounces (whole setup, burner,
windscreen, base, and pot= 10oz) I have a
more fuel efficient system, using between .5-.75 ounces of fuel to boil 2-3
cups of water and I have a very stable
and hassle free system. I like it as a compromise between ease-of-use and
weight. Also the heavy-duty windscreen
is super-nice when there is a stiff breeze- I lose almost no fuel
efficiency (less that 15%)

If you want plans and a how-to, email me. Can also do the same system with
a pepsi-can burner (instead of the old
school brass army one I used) and save around 4 oz.
