Kim,

I trust your confidence and faith is genuine, but keep in mind, each year, we all share the same feeling, our thru-hiker family will be grateful and charming.  I know I felt that way in 2006 and for the most part it was.  However, if you go back in the listserve archives you would think that the 2006 crowd had more than its share of "bad apples".

My guess is that less than 25% of the class of 2008 even knows about this list-serve so it is difficult to really identify the behavior of a group as a whole based on what we see on this list serve.

I hope you are right, however it seems that as more and more people come to hike this trail, more and more reports of "bad apples" are reported.  It seems as though over the years there has developed a stronger "sense of entitlement" amongst the thru-hiker crowd.

Still haven't figured out why this true, but I am sure it has something to do with either alcohol  wipes or water caches (tic).

I send my best wishes for an incredible adventure and hope to meet many of the 2008 crowd at ADZ or along the trail in NorCal.

I have the up most confidence (faith) that all the '08 hikers will be very great full and charming. I know that I am amazed at the spirit of all the trail angels that help out perfect strangers. I know i will be on the trial next year and cant wait to be surrounded by all this generosity.
