Greetings for Crescent City, Calif. (20 miles south of Oregon border and on
the ocean).

We had lots of wind and rain over night. Trees snapped off or uprooted.
Power was out in most of the area this morning except the area I live in.
Safeway reopened this afternoon and the fresh meat and seafood counters
were bare. Clerk said the power was off too long so all the meat and
seafood was suspect and was discarded. I'm surprised Safeway doesn't have
enough backup power now to run their essential refrigeration equipment.
Occasional long power outages are a fact of life up here. If you can't
stand them, you need to move.

I'm warm and dry.

But I wonder about Reinhold. Did he go snowshoeing along the JMT by
Mammoth Ski Resort? If so, he's definitely going to have a story to tell.

I'm very worried for all of you and expect that all my online hiker friends will suddenly drop off the face of the planet due to energy outages, emergency situations, etc. We lost power a week ago due to a snow storm with 70mph winds, I can't imagine 170 mph!!! We're hearing that north CA will get 10 ft of snow and south CA will get hammered with rain.

I was interested to hear that winds of up to 170 MPH are expected at the Sierra Crest. That’s equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane. Geez Louise!!!
