[pct-l] Really small part of the trail I50 to I80

I am looking at a hike that is a bit smaller than most of you do.  But 
looking at doing it with my 11 year old son so for us it is an adventure 
unlike what his friends are doing.

My though is that My wife could drop us off either at I80 or I50 and we 
could walk to the other point.

How bad of an idea is it?

Which direction would be easier?

What will the water situation be like between those points in July\August?

Sorry if this is a Jr. question but I am not sure who\where else to get 
a better answer.
