[pct-l] Let's Hear From The 2007 Thru Hikers...

I camped at 3rd Gate when I did the San Felipes. I did so because I
cached my own water there, joining Charlie Jones on one of his supply
trips.

I wouldn't recommend camping there...

Talk about LNT! There were so many, ummm exposed "catholes", that I was
happy to leave the next morning...

There's a dry wash a couple miles south of 3rd Gate that is broad, flat
and sandy. This wash can accommodate many tents. I highly recommend
camping there if you can't get to Barrel Spring from Scissors in a day.
And if you're solo, or with one or two others, there are a few little
"perches" along the south ridge of the San Felipes that would make
AWESOME campsites! I hear there's some sort of geologic/electrical
phenomena around Granite Mt and the ridge above Julian where "ghost
lights" are sometimes seen at night! The ridge of the San Felipes would
make a great spot to see this!

Mike,

While you are at it, why not ask how many camped at the water cache at
Gate 3. It appears that the emergency water stop has become a popular
spot to camp in recent years.

Straight from the horses mouth, so to speak...

How many Thrus who started from Morena after ADZPCTKO made it to
Burnt Rancheria? How many camped somewhere between Morena and Mt Laguna?
Where did you camp? Cibbets Flat? Stealth Camped on The Trail? How full
was Cibbets? How full was Burnt Rancheria?

After Mt Laguna, where did most camp?

While you all walked northward between Mt Laguna to the 74, were
you always within sight of other hikers?

What was YOUR impression of "The Herd"? Was it a trampling army,
or was The Trail as busy as the JMT on a typical summer weekend?

Much has been opined by non-Thru Hikers, or those who Thru'ed
before ADZPCTKO became so popular.

I'm planning on spending a week between Big Bear and Wrightwood,
starting a couple weeks after ADZ to enjoy The Herd as they go through
and see exactly how dense this "herd" is after 270 miles...
