I think that even if your natural inclination is to
bunch together, for social reasons, OR to hike with
the optimum climatological conditions, that it's
better to spread out a little.  It's healthier for
your environment, ensuring no high-paid important
person needs to interfere someday in order to fix
things.  If spreading out a little rubs you the wrong
way, there other ways to help you get started with it
until you're comfortable with the trail.

That's why i wear Patagonia boxers.  Watch out for
briefs or those tight running shorts liners.
