[pct-l] Chocolate in desert?

Is it an absolutely terrible idea to take any chocolate into the desert?  I
typically put Dark Chocloate M&Ms into my gorp when I make my own.  It'd
also be nice to have a few squares of dark chocolate for desert.  Will I
have to ditch these ideas until KM, or wind up with masses of melted
chocolate threatening to make a mess all over my gear?  I've considered
burying it in my pack, but I'm not sure how much this will help in 90deg
weather.  I will be using an umbrella, but I'm not sure how much shade cools
down the temp.
