In Mammoth, one option that is a bit nicer and even more affordable than the
motels is to get together with some other hikers and rent a condo.  We had a
3 bedroom, 3 bath condo in the center of town for about $215 per night.  It
had 5 twins beds and a queen bed, a great kitchen, access to a pool and
jacuzzi, and a wide-screen tv.  We called ahead, but you can walk into any
of the property management places and find something during the summer.  We
used a property management company just across the street from the Vons, on
Old Mammoth Rd.  (Sorry, I can't remember the name.) This worked out great
for us.
