We use Leki pole tips on cheap ski poles.  We have replaced the tips 
several times over the years.  The plastic that holds the graphite tips 
wears away, and eventually the tip gets loose, falls out, or breaks off.
We have found them pretty easy to change in the field, with some 
creative use of rocks or picnic tables. We take a spare set of tips in 
our repair kit.
