for those like myself who like to listen to mp3 audiobooks while they 
walk, here's a great site with the stated goal of making freely shared 
recordings of all public domain books:

since the readers are all volunteer (anyone can join in), you get a 
range of quality, but many of them are quite professional. i'm currently 
listening to a john muir book and the reader is excellent.
