You probably should unhook the battery cables. All the modern electronics in 
a todays cars will drain the battery in a couple of months.

I have done this, car seemed to be okay afterwards.  I believe it's
recommended to add something to your gasoline to keep it from breaking
down into weird things that can clog your fuel line and/or injectors.
There's a product called Stabil (I think that's it).  I would add it to
the tank and then drive it for a few minutes to suck it into the fuel
line, fuel pump, and injectors.  You may want to check into whether it's
recommended to disconnect the battery...?
