Don't laugh :) i've had that happen (really!)....although it was in
FL, not CA. Wasn't bitten, but it's traumatic nonetheless, to fall
faceforeward with pant's down, and a rattler behind you. I *always"
look/poke around in the brush now, before digging a cathole.
