We resupplied at Cedar Grove on our second JMT in 2007. It's probably
easiest to hike out by going down Bubbs Creek. It's a pretty hike along the
Creek with a good chance of a bear encounter. It's probably about 8-10
miles from the junction of the PCT down to the trailhead at Cedar Grove,
with 4-5000 feet of elevation loss. The biggest concern we had was getting
from the trailhead to the visitor services area, which is about 5-6 miles
away. To our surprise and gratitude, we had no problem 'yogi'-ing a ride
out or back to the trail. Resupply packages are held at the Visitor
Center/Ranger Station; you can contact the park for the mailing address.
They needed a little help finding our package (despite our color-coding).
Everyone, from the park service personnel to the concession employees was
very friendly and helpful. The cafe hours are somewhat limited. The
showers were great!

Subject: [pct-l] Roads End resupply
Anyone out there use Cedar Grove for resupply? One of my children
gave me the Guide to the Theodore Solomons Trail for Christmas.
I've hiked the JMT three times in the last four years and I was thinking
of using the Theodore Solomons as a alternate. I see that there is a
Post Office near Florence Lake Road, Cedar Grove would be the other
logical spot to resupply. I haven't been there in a couple of decades.
This guide looks to be twenty years old. Any thoughts on early spring
stream crossings in the middle Sierras? :)
Robert
