The bus from Devils Postpile runs to Agnew Meadow and back to
Mammoth Ski area. The bus I was referring to is the bus from Mammoth (the town)
to/from the ski area. Is there anyone from Mammoth that can clear this
up?

The shuttle from Red's to Mammoth runs all the time. I
was there in Sept...Labor Day weekend and it was running then. Not sure
how much it is though cuz I never used it just saw it going and picking
        people up from Devil's Postpile

Be careful about wanting to re-supply at Reds
Meadow. In our 2 PCT hikes we
arrived at Reds Meadow before the
store was stocked. There was no food or
services there. The store
opens about the time the hikers are arriving. If
you are near the
front of the pack you may be to early. It was good that we
had not
          planned to re-supply there.

In 2007 we took the bus to the
Mammoth Mountain ski area then caught a ride
into Mammoth. You may
hear about a bus into/out of Mammoth, but we were told
in town
that the bus only ran during ski season.

We agree that VVR is
expensive, but we enjoyed ours stays there.

My VVR experience last summer was great. I
          skipped
it on my first time section hiking the PCT, but was
glad
I did it the second time through. VVR is very
hiker friendly (I had
          previously met Jim at Trailfest).
They give you one free night in a
          tent cabin, and one
free beer. Their restaurant is great, and they
          have showers and laundry
facililties. Their hiker boxes are
overflowing too. I personally would buy
food there to get to Red's
          Meadow
or Agnew Meadows, then bus up to Mammoth for
          resupply.
Red's was one night and two days hiking, so that's not
          much food to buy.
Mammoth has everything. Agnew
Meadows is nice
to begin from after a full resupply, as it
is a 800-900 foot climb
up from Reds. Further, it's about
thirty miles to Tuolumne Meadows
          where you can get more
stuff. VVR is rated as one of the most
          popular places to
visit on the PCT and I would  highly
          recommend
          it.
