Well now we have a new subject to talk about.
Years ago we had this feller show up at KMds in the midst of the herd. He had gotten 4/5 boxes of stuff in the mail at the store. He would walk one up the trail for a while ,go back and do it again with another one. In some cases he would have 2/3 piled up and up the trail he would go. Last count when he had left KMds he had 7 boxes. Honestly don't remember how far he was going but its 45 miles to the turn off to Lonepine?
Donna, does he ring  bell with you or he might have been in 06? Now we have all seen some folks who seem to get 3/4 boxes in each town and maby ship out a few. I have even seen a few hikers with full pack carring one box in their arms, or in one case 2 packs. That becane a trail name for an 06er, full size back pack and a large day pack on front chocked full of stuff. This guy even made it to Canada.
One Thanksgiven i spent a week alone up by 3 points in section D. One night this guy comes out of the woods at Bandito group camp where i was staying. He had 2 big dogs and a full size army duffell. I had on a down jacket that this guy really liked and wanted to "trade " me for another one. Thinking it was in the duffle i asked him and he said Oh no, its buried back in the woods.   HUMMMMMM Off he goes and now its dark and i am alone and thinking to go hide realized with 2 dogs he would still find me......Well he shows up an hour later without his pack and he has a large thermous full of hot coffee for us. Turns out he could not find the jacket in the dark. The more i talked to this guy i realized he was living here near the trail between the three campgrouds he had worked as a cook at Newsomes ranch and even did work at the ski resort at times. Needless to say come daylight i moved down to Chalow Flats area and ran into a park maintence man. He laughed
and said the guy was indeed homeless and was actually wanted by the sherrif for tresspassing. He was harmless but still scared me somewhat. Like does  the buried jacket still have a body with it????

haha...yeh he sounds a little whacked to me to Joe. Funny that his name was
Scott. I did a little trip to Deep Creek last year and met a guy named Scott,
from my hometown even, who was carrying a HUGE duffle bag. He was a
mess...wearing combat boots, got blisters which I helped him out with at the
bridge. When we got to the camp, he was unloading his stuff and you wouldn't
believe what he had in there. The funniest thing, I thought, were the
"Jesus candles". You know those ones the Catholics use...tall, glass
with some saint on them. He had THREE of them! LOL. We ended up being friends,
even now. and he learned not to carry a duffle bag with Jesus candles packed in
it to hike with. There were alot of beginners on that trip. thank god it was
only over night...it was an experience to remember! But I'll never forget
it. Jesus candles...lol

That story about the suitcase guy is not the first time I heard of that. This
year, shortly after we left Cascade Locks, and topped off to the ridgeline, we
met the "Luggage Guy". Scott had met him before, up north in 04, near
glacier peak, I believe. Anyways I had been behind Scott, and rounded a corner
to find him talking to this obviously crazy midaged man. Not wanting to ingage
in this conversation and trying to give Scott the reason to ditch this guy, I
made my way around several large pieces of luggage, A 7 gallon water jug, a
monsterous duffle bag and he, who with all his stuff was parked on a ice chest,
in the middle of the trail.  Scott soon caught up to tell me he had met him
before and that he was moving [in 04], useing the trail as his path from glacier
peak to Seattle. Me not wanting to get shot or something, missed out on the
conversation about how this guy, was dressed in clean dress clothes was hauling
luggage one piece at a time up the
PCT one mile a day. He was self seficient, self relient, as well as perfectly
capable of doing so. He in my mind was insane, but who am I to say, others may
say I am a little wacked too. From that point on, the "Luggage guy"
was the talk of the trail. Every person we came accross already knew, and was
waiting for his arrival. My father always told me, "hiking was the greatest
therapy money couldn't buy", hum??-joe
