"How's Your Trail?" I am a hunter, I belong to the NRA and the North
American Hunting Club but I haven't been huinting since the 70s just haven't
made the time. The first week of November I took two friends on the Trail
North of the Shake camp grounds but had forgotten that it was hunting
season. When I saw some guys with rifles it made me a little nervous,
thinking that we could get shot accidently. I also thought that here I was
unarmed with so many out there that were and didn't like it just because
you don't know who is the honest hunter and who isn't. I believe in all of
our rights especially the 2nd amendment. If you loose that one the rest will
be soon to follow. Then you can become a servant to the rich! Servant oh I
ment "SLAVE" Remember "BE PREPARED" Ground Pounder Bill "Semper Fi"

yeh I'm not a big fan of guns in the wilderness myself, but I don't plan on
becoming a hostage of illegals close to the border nor do intend to have
them steal my gear...I think 100 miles is too many but maybe the
first20-30...after that we should be safe....from the illeals anyways....the
other people on the trail is another story.

I do agree with Amanda on the hiking during hunting season though...nothing
like listening to a gun shot in the middle of my respite from the big city
(eyes rolling)

Amanda, not to throw a wet blanket on you but are you aware one of the
likely ?s
asked by the folks at home and people you meet in town stops is, "Are
you packing" I am not sure how many hikers have carried
"something" in the past but i know of some that did at least
for a few hundred miles yet never heard of a problem about this. This also
will
not be something few folks will admit to but its not unheard of. Perhaps
after a
few 100 miles under their belt they sent them home by at least KMs.

concealed hand gun on the trail anyway or in a national park generally? As
has
been pointed out here a number of times before, the most dangerous animal on
the
trail is man and then mostly near road crossings. A hand gun is likely too
small to protect you from a bear or a mountain lyon. That is not likely to
attack you anyway. It is too small to hunt dear with and a dear would be
waisted on a hiker anyway. If you are not a hiker, then use a rifle and only
during hunting season.

the society that encourages their use. I get nervous on the trail during
hunting season and have probably ruined the shot of a hunter or two by
announcing myself. At least hunters are out there with confidence. Someone
who is carrying a hand gun is doing so out of fear and that is far more
dangerous. Perhaps we could start a campaign to write to the state
legislators
to restrict hand guns within their states to the extent possible by law in
the
affected states.
