[pct-l] Water Report

Well folks, after two attempts foiled by shin splints, I at last finished
the Wrightwood to Agua Dulce section. Oh, the joys of being a section
hiker. Every trip is like the first week on the trail - never long enough
to get over the pain hump. This time however, my body cooperated with the
plan. Just normal first week pain. Nothing that shut me down. Oh, and did
I mention it was BEAUTIFUL! Crisp, cool, and only saw one other hiker in 70
miles. Pictures and videos tomorrow posted to my Postholer blog.

12/5

The stream flowing from Buckhorn to Burkhart Camp is flowing very well.

I did not check Cooper Cyn Camp

400.7 Camp Glenwood is dry. The pipe feeding the faucets here is broken in
at least 7 places. The steel water tanks (2) are both permanently plugged.
This leaves the note from Tatu Joe on previous reports no longer viable.
This location should be considered for removal from the water report until
indications otherwise. Until there is indication that repairs are in the
plans, in the works, or complete. As for now, this location is dead unless
someone happens to be camping there.

Previous note on the water report indicated a leaking pipe down the trail.
This is true. Fill a gallon in 2 minutes. There is a pipe in a cement basin
0.8 miles past Camp Glenwood. It is on the left side of the trial and
obvious. To access, lift the BACK side of the steel plate. The front is
too heavy. (pictures will be posted on my journal at postholer).

I did not see the other water options mentioned on current report near
Glenwood.

Three Points Trailhead - still plugged perm.

406.7 and 406.9 Sulphur Springs - Dry. I also tried the pipe from the tank
on the hill. No knob attached. I did not hike up to the tank itself.

Fiddleneck Spring - size and shape still same as expressed on current water
report. Slow flow - better option than Fountainhead Spring

Fountainhead spring - low, but constant trickle across trail. Very shallow,
but with some digging very usable.

Did not check Sheep Camp or Pacifico Mtn

12/6

Mill Creek Trailhead - water faucet not working, but hoses available at
Ranger or Fire Station

Messenger Flats Camp - Still dry. Per the Forest Service, no known
restoration date.

Moody Canyon - Low Flow. You could make this work, but N. Fork Ranger
Station is only four miles north.

North Fork Ranger Station - Water on. Spigot on right side of fire station

Mattox Canyon - Flowing about half inch deep, plenty of volume though silty.

Robins Nest RV Park - Closed. Another RV park 0.20 east appeared open.

Santa Clara River - flowing though unappealing (trash in area)

Antelope Fwy / Escondido Canyon Just p[ast tunnel - Water yes, but two
parts water one part horse shit.

Vasquez Rocks Picnic Area - only faucet I could find did not work. There
may be another faucet described in water report that I did not find.

453.5 Ranger Station - once on pavement, 0.2 miles on left. Water from
hoses available.

Winter Hikers enjoy!
