Meadow Ed here or in this case i should say Canyon Ed here.
Over the last 5 or so years i have turned again and again to the Grand Canyon for my hikes. I have often said the Canyon speaks to me louder then the PCT ever did. I am going to get one more hike in this month to make it 8 trips into the canyon in '08.
This one starts the 30th and i will be with another PCTer Just Paul for 4 days. Then i am working on an 7 day hike, as i type this note i am also working with a ranger in the canyon getting this permit today.
This will take me up to the 10th of Jan and wil be a solo one so far......Then i hike out the Hermit and hook up with Billy Goat for an 8 day hike, his 2nd GC trip with me. I have taken a couple dozen different ATers and PCTers. AND would you beleive even the mighty Switchback has come.......
So when the winter keeps you inside wishing to hike you can always do the canyon. Post me off line about this hike starting the 3rd to the 10th if your interested. Total cost is 30 bucks! apiece
I always thought this was a great warmup hike for folks coming out west for the PCT, a chance to test your gear and see what works. Yes it can be cold, snowy and icy to even test out your new winter toys. Keep in mind at the end of your first day your at the river soaking up sunshine all day and could be 75 degrees.
So think cayon............
