I think there may be a directional discrepancy here. If the
recommended crossing is north of the trail for a northbound hiker it
will still be north of the trail for a southbound hiker.
So "go right, north from the trail as it heads west" for a NOBO will
take you to the same crossing as "left or NORTH from the trail" for a
SOBO.
Unless you are recommending different crossing points for NOBO and SOBO
