When Hacker and I hiked a 43 mile day "back in '77" (said with that ol' type voice), we got a lot of criticism about it too.? There wasn't anything macho about it, we did it . . . ?well, just?because we could.? We had been?averaging more than 25 miles per day for weeks and we're in the condition to do it, and the opportunity presented itself and, the rest is history.??
