[pct-l] most remote spot(s) on the pct?

a question came up while i was hiking mt san gorgonio with some friends
this weekend (perfect weather for it!)... what's the most remote spot
(from civilization) on the entire pct? of course, "civilization" is a
subjective term, but i suppose for the purposes of this question, i
would define it as any infrastructure that is either settled/occupied,
or a road that can get you out to an area which is settled/occupied. i
would count backcountry ranger stations in this definition, during
seasons when rangers are present.

anyway, i suppose there's at least three answers to this, depending on
what's meant by "most remote:"

1) the spot that's furthest in *pct* trail miles in either direction to
civilization (most likely meaning a road).

2) the spot that's furthest from civilization in any direction, as the
crow flys.

3) the spot that's the most remote based on a combination of the above
two criteria.

maybe someone has a more useful/technical definition of "remoteness?" or
maybe this is a question that can't be simplified quite so easily?

any takers?
