Hello from a longtime list-lurker.

One more update to the guide pages at www.emeraldlake.com/pctguide

I was able to reach Ron Bergquist by phone today. Callahan's is now
shooting for a mid-July reopening. You'll need to be watching their
Web site for a specific date. It's a moving target right now. Just as
important: The PCT shower-and-laundry facility is already up and
running. This, just a few hundred yards down the frontage road from
the trail cross of Old 99.

Here's the complete listing:

For more years than we can recount, the first and last word for the
PCT hiker in Ashland was Callahan's . This large
restaurant-bar-rooming house hard by Interstate 5's Siskiyou Summit
exit (7100 Old Hwy. 99, 800 286-0507, 541 482-1299) burned down in
September of 2006. Owners Donna and Ron Bergquist have vowed to
rebuild the landmark roadhouse, with plans for 23 upscale suites and
a slightly smaller bar/restaurant operation. The Bergquists, longtime
friends of the PCT, are emphatic that thru-hikers should not be
scared off by the rack rates on the new luxe rooms. There will be
some flexibility on price mid-week. Overall, the square footage is
expected to more than double -- from 11,000 square feet to 27,000.
One important new element in the rebuilding plan: A shower and
laundry facility dedicated to serving PCT hikers is already up and
running. As of April of 2008, the Bergquists were shooting for a
reopening in mid-July of 2008. Keep checking their Web site for a
specific date. The plan is breakfast, lunch and dinner service 365
days a year -- all approximately 500 yards down the hill from the PCT.
