Dropped my Old 3mp/3X optical AA battery camera
It just became Manual Zoom
Walk two steps forward to zoom in.
Walk two steps backward to zoom out.

This MP actually works but i would like more zoom.
Not worth fixing.

I need a camera for this thru-hike.
I haven't really carried one before.

The MP's aren't as important as the optical zoom.
I'm using the photos on a journal.

I don't mind carrying a light charger.
Solar charger seems too complicated with all the hookups beyond my time and knowledge restraints.
I might buy a couple of propriatory batteries it that would help.

Titanium AA's good too.

Need to download along the trail.
I have no trail support/transcriber (may seek transcriber of a sort.  No I do need a transcriber).

Downloading to, and sending from my cell????
I think a cell phone with a huge memory card and a 10x optical zoom would be right for taking and sending photos. :0)

Best options for easy to operate.
Of course money IS a concern, not a must though.
