On a long section hike in 1994 I met a thru-hiking fellow at Dorothy 
Lake who left Campo around June 1 and was about to catch the herd who 
said, "I don't walk any faster than anyone else - I just walk more 
hours."  Of all the comments I've heard or read, that one makes the most 
sense to me.  He also spent an hour with me swapping stories...
