The Inyo Register said about 19,000 permits were issued this year for the  
trail.  About the same as last year even with the new policy of the Wagbag  and 
carrying out your poop.  The two wooden toilets are to be removed from  the 
trail.  Whitney hikers have deposited more than 4,500 pounds of human  waste in 
receptacles at the Whitney Portal trailhead.
