[pct-l] Glacier Peak closure

This summer I not only set a new unassisted record on the PCT, but I also completed over 10,000 miles of PCT hiking. So my point is, I know the entire trail well. I would like to say that, [except for the closure] the trail is in excellent shape all the way from Mexico to Canada. We all owe this to the many trail workers of the past and present. I thank you all personally, and plan to do my share of trail work this winter.

There has been talk and rumors, that the Forest Service wants to let the closure around the West side of Glacier Peak [original route], go to ruin. For those of you that have not hiked this route, it is one of the highlights on the entire PCT. It is a wonderful piece of true wilderness, and to be detoured around to a lesser trail and roads, is now a option, but within a few years will be your only choice. By sitting back and allowing the Forest Service to reroute the PCT to the east side, will degrade the trail in a huge way.

I would like to see the community focus on the most damaged section of trail on the entire PCT, rather than going over and over what is really not too bad, like I saw all the way up the trail. This is NOT to insult any workers or management, but to inform everyone of the greater problem. If there are no answers at this time, maybe someone in the area could pull permits for next season, and make it public. There are a lot of us who would jump at the chance to join in and help fix this grand section.

If the PCTA knows the future of this section, we should be addressed, for our voices are important. Is there is anyone on this list that can give us the facts, or inform the PCTA that there are persons concerned, please post to the list, for this should be public. This issue should be addressed.

                               Just Voicing My Opinion,
                               Thank You, Tattoo-Joe
