A statement on inciweb.org on the Ranch Fire says the following:

"As a result of extreme fire activity, limited firefighting resources and 
the continued threat to life and property, Angeles National Forest officials 
are implementing a forest closure. The Forest Closure Order is effective 
October 23, 2007 and will last until the extreme conditions subside.

Although this is short notice, the fire situation is extreme, and 
public/fire fighter safety has to be our first concern."
