He's going to have a lot of road walking to get to Hwy 20, and then a
lot of walking on Hwy 20 to get to the trailhead at Ross Lake.
The alternate is the East Bank Trail along Ross Lake. At Lightening
Creek, you need to follow the creek trail until the junction with the
Hozemeen Lake Trail. Then take the Hozemeen trail back to the lake and
into Canada.
Here is the URL for the Ross Lake trail map from the National Park
Service. It seems pretty clear once you look at the map.

I understand how eager he is to get to Canada, but the North Cascades is
one of the very best sections of the entire trail. Maybe he should
consider finishing it next year?
