[pct-l] Ollalie Lake Resupply - what alternatives?

I've not resupplied there but I did stop there during my section hike this past August and I didn't find it that bad. Sure, the prices are high compared to a grocery store but considering that everything has to be trucked in on gravel roads and then kept cool by means of a generator, I didn't find it to be that ridiculous. But then I don't hike on a shoestring budget, either. Ah, the joys of being an employed section hiker!

Some thru-hikers picked up packages while I was there and didn't appear to have any problems.

It's true that there isn't any running water available but there are multiple lakes within a short walking distance so it's no different than being on the trail. I was too lazy to filter that afternoon, and there were too many humans around for me to be drinking lake water untreated, so I bought a three-liter container of bottled water and split it with one of the thrus.

I went from Makenzie Pass south of Big Lake Youth Camp to Timberline in about four and a half days without resupplying so it's definitely reasonable. But if you want to resupply at Ollalie or just buy some (expensive) junk food, I didn't see any serious reason to avoid it.

I don't think there are any other convenient resupply options between Big Lake and Timberline.

Subject: [pct-l] Ollalie Lake Resupply - what alternatives?

Well, I was planning to send myself a resupply box to Ollalie Lake during my Oregon section hike next Sept... as long as one doesn't get their hopes up too high for what can be bought at Ollalie, and at what price, can anyone comment on their success (or lack of it) with getting your resupply pkg at Ollalie?

As long as I know going in that it's not the pinnacle of service or a bargain basement, but I CAN expect to get my package, I think I could live with that just fine.

And, if it REALLY stinks that bad, what are the nearby alternatives? ("there are plenty of stops to make on this part of the trail-- send your mail drop somewhere else" - Will Hiltz). I was hoping to keep resupply intervals at about 3 days to keep from hauling more food weight.

Thanks,
