The BUC has long been established in the boating/sailing/yachting
community. It is an acronym for Boating Unit of Currency and depending
on the size of the boat can be anywhere from $300 to $1000 or more. It
doesn't matter what you may need, it will always cost you at least a BUC
or maybe two. That way when the wife askes how much you spent on the
boat this weekend, you can truthfully say 'only a couple of BUCs dear.'

Now, this term, the BUC, should also be applied to the hiking community,
especially after a two bag trip to REI. The Backpacking Unit of
Currency. I purpose that the BUC in terms of the hiking communtiy is
somewhere in the neighborhood of $150.00, again, depending on the size
of the hike or the attitude of the hiker. New backpack, couple of
BUCs. Shoes, a BUC and a half. Stove, around a BUC. Sleeping bag,
under two BUCs. Cold weather outfit, five BUCs. So, only spending a
couple of BUCs doesn't seem so bad does it. This idea makes backpacking
a very affordable hobby that is well within the means of the masses. It
will also very well please the Mrs. or Mr. as the case may be when you
tell them that you got all that stuff for less than five BUCs.

But wait, there's more.

Imagine the smiles you will get when you present your spouse with
his/her very own brand new backpack that costs only two BUCs! You will
be the envy of the neighborhood. Act now, quantities are limited. The
number to call is BR-549. Call now! Operators are standing by.

This valuable learning station experience has been brought to you free
of charge. You pay only for actual shipping and handeling. Please send

Beyond this point
There be dragons...
