I hiked thru the Cajon Pass (section mileage beginning at 342.1) to
Agua Dulce last week and talked to the caretaker at North Fork (which has
plenty of water and even a shower available) and he confirmed the closing of
the mill creek station within two weeks - that was on 5/11. But he also
said that the hose would continue to be on at the station for needed water.
I didn't get water there due to a wonderful trail angel. I regret not
checking the hose situation for later hikers. But two people told me it was
still on and available.
-Water was on at Grassy Hollow visitor Center faucets.
-Good flow out of Little Jimmy Spring.
-Buckhorn Campground has water on in faucets.(part of the re-route due to
the frog protection area)
-NO Water at Glennwood faucet and steel water tanks were empty.
-Small pool (about 6 feet long by 6 in. deep) of decent water at Sulpher
Springs - not at the campground, but about an eighth mile before you
get there - you cross it on the trail The trough at the campground had no
water, and the steam was muck.
-no water at Fiddleneck spring.
-small amount of water at Fountainhead spring.
-Soledad Canyon Rd. RV parks - easy to find someone with water - very kind
people.
And of course, once you get to Hiker Heaven - you forget any dry areas
previous. It was my first time there and I still can't believe how kind and
generous and comfortable the Saufleys are and made me feel.
Small world news - found out in talking with Donna that my husband was
coached in sports by her father in middle school 37 + years ago. He is/ and
was a wonderful giving and kind man who was a surrogate father to my husband
- and now look what his daughter has become. The gift just keeps being
passed on. Thank you Jeff and Donna for giving and giving and giving.
