  They look perfect for that quick trip up Mt Whitney. Use as a sleeping bag stuff sack on your PCT hike. Leave your main pack and most of your gear in your tent at Guitar Lake; take this, water, wind clothes and a warm jacket up to Whitney and back. It would sure beat hauling your whole rig up to the Whitney/JMT junction and leaving it there for the marmots and tourists to potentially play with.
