Next step is gram weenie.

It can be done.
Last weekend I carried 7 liters of water, all my gear and two days food 
(about 25 lbs.) in one of my packs.
Padded straps and waist belt, water bottle pocket, trekking pole racks, 1800 
cubic inches.
4.6 ounces after seam sealing.  Almost waterproof.  My 4.3 will do the same.
(Water is the worst thing I know of for good weight dispersion.)
