Say, another piece of gear that I was happy about on the Grand Canyon
expedition was my gloves. I use some Gortex mitts for rain, but my main gloves are
for warmth.

I previously used some REI poly liner gloves. They are nice, but very thin.
For a fraction of an ounce in weight, I upgraded to the MountainHardware
Power Stretch gloves. Very warm and a definite improvement over what I was
using before. With some simple over mitts and these gloves, I cannot see how
you would have cold hands out on the trail under most conditions.

Remember, when I think of gear and safety, I think of the lateral trail over
to the top of 14,496 foot Mt. Whitney. I am at 14,000 feet on the lateral
trail and weather has turned bad. Do I have the gear to keep me safe? That
is my standard.

Switchback the Hand Warmer
PS. MountainHardware has come out with the Bunker 1 storm tent if you are
looking for a mega tough solo tent.
