Re: S. Lake Tahoe Fire
Received this email from Yogi yesterday:
I'm at Carson Pass now -- 4:45pm Tuesday. I first saw the smoke at 4pm on
Sunday, as I was about 12 miles south of Sonora Pass. Monday (yesterday),
the air quality was terrible. I got a sore throat from all the smoke.
Views were totally obscured.
Today, the wind is blowing the smoke away from me and away from the PCT, so
breathing is normal. There haven't been any notices posted on the trail, so
I'm certain all the PCT hikers are continuing north. I've got sketchy
information from southbound dayhikers, but you never know how reliable that
is.
The caretakers here at the information center said that Echo Lake is still
open, so I'm hiking on tonight. I hope to get about 7 or 8 more miles in
tonight, then get to Echo Lake in the morning. I hadn't planned on going to
South Lake Tahoe, thank goodness.
Has anyone heard any other news regarding PCT conditions (smoke etc.) from
any hikers?
