[pct-l] JMT Permit......BAD ADVICE given

Donna, I'm somewhat purplexed by your discussion.  The deal couldn't be
more clear, from the PCTA website:

"If you plan on hiking or riding 500 or more continuous miles along the
PCT, in a single trip, the PCTA can issue you a Thru-Permit. This single
permit covers the entry (as a pedestrian or equestrian) and traversing of
all local, state and national parks and forests along the PCT and is free
to PCTA members."

On the form, itself, you must sign the following statement:
"I have read and agree to abide by the Pacific Crest Trail Thru-Permit
Requirements. It is my intent to travel at least 500 miles of the Pacific
Crest Trail by foot or hoof in one season. I will adhere to all applicable
local rules and regulations.

Signature___________________________________________ "

So, to use this process, one has to intentionally mislead the PCTA, and
put at risk the whole process for all who use the PCT.

While I do like to save the Department of Motor Vehicles the "bother" of
spending their time processing my driver's license, and save the building
dept the "bother" of processing a building permit,  as good citizens, we
actually need to do those things.  I think those agencies would not quite
buy our "saving them the bother" argument.  In fact, why not just make the
argument that one is saving EVERYONE a lot of bother by not getting
permits, at all??  Some people DO make that argument, and if it is valid
for one thing, it would seem to valid for everything else, too.
