"I read on the PCTA that the MacKenzie highway will be closed for part
of the summer which means that the Santiam Hwy will be your only
access to Sisters."

I was just up there and though the road is closed part way up, you can still
get from Sisters to the trailhead on McKenzie Hwy (242). you just can't get
to Eugene or points west on 242. though most north-bounders will probably be
there after the construction is finished anyways
